Eggman Calls on Denham to Protect Valley Communities from Oil Train Derailments

Denham Major Donor Owns Turlock Rail Line

Turlock, CA - Michael Eggman, Turlock farmer and Democratic candidate for Congress in California’s 10th District, is calling on Congressman Jeff Denham to cosponsor the Bakken Crude Stabilization Act in light of today’s derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in Fairfield.

“I’m calling on Jeff Denham to support the Bakken Crude Stabilization Act because the next derailment could happen right here in Turlock, Modesto, or Riverbank,” said candidate Eggman. “We need a Congressman who will act to protect Valley families, not  Washington special interests.”

One of Denham’s top campaign contributors is the company that owns the rail line that carries dangerous Bakken Shale oil through Turlock. Congressman Denham spent part of his August District Work Period touring the Bakken Shale Fields in North Dakota.

Turlock’s Fire Department has said it lacks the resources necessary to respond to an oil train derailment, and Modesto and Riverbank are also along the route of several of these oil trains.  Despite chairing the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials,  Jeff Denham has failed to act to protect Valley families, farmers, and businesses.
